England have been handed another headache before the second Test against New Zealand with Ollie Robinson ruled out because of knee soreness.
The Sussex seamer suffered discomfort during a nets session at Hove on Friday, when he was joined by Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson as they bombarded Sussex pair Oli Carter and Charlie Tear.
Robinson ended more than two years in the international wilderness by taking a triple-wicket maiden in the first over of his comeback in England’s 115-run triumph at Lord’s in the series opener.
He was named the player of the match after collecting seven wickets – including a five-for in the first innings – but he reported soreness in his right knee after a training session on Friday.
That prompted Sussex team-mate Henry Crocombe to be called up as injury cover on Saturday and England announced on Sunday evening that Robinson will miss the Kia Oval Test, which starts on Wednesday.
An England team spokesperson confirmed Robinson will “remain with the squad and undergo rehab work on his knee” with the aim of being available for the third Test at Trent Bridge, beginning on June 25.

England have experienced a turbulent past week after standing down captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Atkinson for the second Test because they broke a midnight team curfew in the early hours of last Monday.
The pair were out celebrating England’s win over the Black Caps at Lord’s and were present when a confrontation involving Saracens rugby union player Totoa Auvaa occurred at a London nightclub.
Sussex will hope to have news on any involvement for Crocombe before they face Hampshire in the Championship from Friday.
