Albion have completed a deal for one of Colombia’s brightest young talents.
Matias Orozco has signed from Deportivo Cali for £3.5 million on a five-year contract.
He is likely to go straight out on loan to a European league.
The 18-year-old midfielder has broken into the Colombian top flight in the past season and is under-20s captain for his country.
Albion sporting director Mike Cave said: “We have identified Matias as an exciting young talent who we're really pleased to bring to the club.
“He has already got good experience in Colombia and we will now place him with a club on loan for the 2026-27 season so he can continue his development.
“We're looking forward to working with him and to helping him reach his potential.”
There is also likely to be a sell-on for Deportivo which will make the move attractive for them.
Fittingly, the renewal of Albion's transfer dealings in South America - a supply line which has been less apparent in recent times - came on a day Diego Gomez, Moises Caicedo and Valentin Barco were in action on the same pitch at Chelsea.
Further business is expected ahead of Tuesday evening's transfer deadline involving deals to secure playing time for senior Albion players who are out of the squad as well as under-21s.
Amario Cozier-Duberry, who is among those in demand, was back in the matchday squad at Chelsea, although Ibrahim Osman was the one winger sent on in the late push to save the game.
