Fabian Hurzeler and three Albion players up for awards

The Seagulls’ head coach is one of just three nominees for the Barclays September manager of the month prize.

Hurzeler guided his side to big wins over Coventry and Arsenal to follow the home draw with Leeds.

A 3-2 comeback win at Manchester United in the Carabao Cup will not be taken into consideration.

The Premier League described Albion’s performance against Arsenal as “extraordinary” and pitched him against Andoni Iraola, whose Liverpool side also took seven points, and Enzo Maresca, whose Manchester City won three out of three.

Lewis Dunk’s long-range finish at Coventry is one of eight strikes in the running for Guinness goal of the month.

Any disappointment for Charalampos Kostoulas that he did not make that list will be eased by his place on the EA Sports player of the month shortlist.

Both Kostoulas and Pascal Gross are among eight nominations.

The Greek forward scored a cracker at Coventry and capped a superb month with a goal and assist in the victory against Arsenal but his work off the ball is also recognised in the nomination.

A Prem statement said: “The 19-year-old scored in wins against Coventry and Arsenal, and has been a pressing machine throughout September – undoubtedly a key factor in Brighton’s results.

“No forward has made more defensive contributions, ball recoveries or won possession in the final third than Kostoulas.”

A similar citing for Gross highlighted two goals and three assists and added: “The 35-year-old had one of the best months of his career.”

Liverpool duo Alexander Isak and Jeremy Jacquet are also shortlisted as is Jayden Bogle, the only man to score against Albion in the league this month.
