New defender Adam Quinn is set to make his Reds debut in the heart of defence after joining on a one-year deal from Halifax this week.

Quinn, a former England semi-professional international, was expected to make his bow in Tuesday’s win over Lewes but his registration was not completed in time.

The 26-year-old was bought for £5,000, which was paid out of the pocket of Reds director Phil Jarman.

He made almost 200 League appearances for the Shaymen after joining in 2002 from Sheffield Wednesday.

He is the fourth player to join Reds from the cash-strapped Yorkshire club since last season following the arrivals of Lewis Killeen, Danny Forrest and Jake Wright.

Evans said: “We have ended up with four but Adam Quinn was the first player I tried to get from Halifax.

“He is a big, strong, dominant centre-half. I would suggest he and Chris Giles were two of the best in the Conference premier last year and we have got them both.

“That was the plan. It has taken us a little longer to get Quinny but we have got him.

“For all those supporters who love Chris Giles for the right reasons they will love Adam Quinn a bit more.”

Evans is likely to otherwise keep an unchanged side, meaning last season’s top scorer Jamie Cook will again have to settle for a place on the bench after struggling with a hip injury.

Striker Isaiah Rankin remains an injury doubt with a hamstring problem and Steve Fletcher will be sidelined with an ankle injury for at least another week.

Forest Green, who have taken a point from their first two games, are hoping to have striker Conal Platt available after he went down with a sickness bug this week.
