Lewes have issued a vote of confidence in manager Kevin Keehan.

The Rooks boss has come under pressure after failing to win any of the opening ten matches of the season.

Fans have called for Keehan, who was appointed in April to replace title-winning boss Steven King, to be axed.

However, following a board meeting on Monday the directors have decided to issue a statement backing Keehan but also making it clear that improvements have to be made.

The full statement reads: “Following a scheduled meeting on Monday evening, the board of directors met with Kevin Keehan on Tuesday to discuss the season so far. It was agreed by all parties that results have been disappointing and that some changes will be required to improve the team’s poor form.

“As a result, Kevin Keehan is looking to strengthen the playing squad in key areas and equally the board of directors are looking to raise more funds via commercial activity.

“ The board of directors remain confident that Kevin Keehan will be able to move the club forward and that he realises the enormity of the challenge that faces Lewes FC at this level.

“Following regrettably inaccurate speculation on both the radio and in print about this season’s budget, the board of directors wish to confirm that the playing budget for this season is approximately 35% less than it was for last season. There will be no further comments from the board on this subject.

“The board of directors continue to plan for a long-term and sustainable future for the club and hope that results improve in the near future.

“It is worth reflecting that the club and supporters have enjoyed remarkable success in recent years, finishing within the top four places in eight out of the last ten years and progressing from Ryman division three to Blue Square premier in the space of seven seasons.

“We will be continuing to support Kevin Keehan and his team in this difficult season and hope that all supporters of Lewes FC will do the same.”

Lewes are away to Histon tonight when it is expected young Albion striker Sam Gargan will make his debut.
