Lewes under-18s have booked a home tie with Premier League side Hull City in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.

The Rooks ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Croydon Athletic at the Dripping Pan to set up a showdown with the Tigers.

Centre forward Tim Rivers stood out in an impressive team display, creating the first goal and scoring the third.

It was Croydon Athletic who enjoyed the better of the early chances and Dan Moody could have twice put them ahead.

On four minutes the striker was denied by a great block from Lewes right-back Grant Hall, then on 11 minutes Navid Zandi played a ball over the top for Moody whose control let him down at the vital point.

The deadlock was broken on 25 minutes thanks to the craft and industry of Rivers, who got to the byline and delivered a cross which was turned into his own net by a defender.

Moody had a chance to level for the visitors three minutes later but he planted a free header wide from Nathan Green's corner.

Lewes doubled their advantage on 32 minutes thanks to a wonderful goal. Ben Osborn won a free-kick in a central position almost 25 yards out and Fred Foreman curled the ball superbly into the top corner.

Rivers and Foreman were causing the visitors lots of problems and they almost produced a third goal just before the break when Rivers fed Foreman whose shot came back off the crossbar.

The hugely impressive Rivers added the third eight minutes into the second half, collecting a short pass before unleashing a shot which flew past Croydon keeper Adam Peck.

It was comfortable after that for Lewes with the defence, led by captain Ryan Timms, standing firm.

Croydon's only sniff of a consolation came 11 minutes from time when Moody's looping header was touched on to the crossbar by goalkeeper Jake Buss.

As well as Rivers and Foreman, Jay Tidey particularly impressed in the centre of midfield.

David Wheeler, who had started for the first team at Torquay 24 hours earlier, was an unused substitute.

Among a decent-sized crowd were first team manager Kevin Keehan and a scout from Hull who must now visit the Dripping Pan.
