New boy Jason Jarrett is ready to take on one of his old clubs after joining Albion for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who has made most of his 231 league appearances in the Championship, is signing from Preston North End and goes straight into the squad which faces League One leaders Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Albion chairman Dick Knight completed the transfer with his Preston counterpart David Shaw today.

Seagulls boss Micky Adams had revealed he was confident of adding to his squad when speaking after the 2-2 draw at Cheltenham.

Adams said tonight: "I am sure Jason will prove an important addition and can add another dimension to our midfield while bringing some added experience to the squad.

"He is an energetic box-to-box midfielder who can operate in either an attacking or defensive role anywhere across the middle."

Bury-born Jarrett, who is 6ft tall, played 13 times for Leicester in the second half of the 2006/07 campaign while on loan.

He helped Wigan go from the third tier to the Premier League under the management of Paul Jewell and has also played for Blackpool, Wrexham and Bury as well as being on loan at Plymouth, Hull, QPR and Oldham.

Jarrett will be keen to get into the action having been limited to three substitute appearances, and a total playing time of 30 minutes, for North End this season.
