Craig Davies is determined not to have his Albion debut ruined by another tatty result against the Posh.

The Seagulls’ new striker faces Peterborough for the second time in three months at Withdean tonight.

Davies scored six goals in 13 games on loan to Stockport from Oldham earlier this season but drew a blank in a 3-1 home defeat against Peterborough in December.

“I didn’t score unfortunately,” Davies said. “I didn’t really get a kick actually!

“Peterborough are a good side, strong going forward. Aaron McLean and Craig Mackail-Smith are good players for this league but we need to get a good result to start climbing up the table.

“Hopefully we can do that. It has been proven that anybody can beat anybody in this league.”

Davies may begin his Albion career on the bench after withdrawing from the Wales squad for their friendly against Poland in Portugal tomorrow night.

Glenn Murray is still injured but competition for forward places is fierce, with skipper Nicky Forster and on-loan Calvin Andrew both finding the target in Albion’s last outing against Hartlepool ten days ago.

“It’s like that at most clubs,” Davies said. “If you want to progress in your career you are always going to have decent strikers in your way but if you train hard and stay consistent then everything takes care of itself.

“First and foremost I want to get my club form up and running. I just want to get my head down, play some games and score some goals.”

Jim McNulty, Davies’ former Stockport team-mate, is expected to make his debut at left-back. French winger Seb Carole could make the first start of his second spell with the Seagulls, as Chris Birchall is on World Cup qualifying duty with Trinidad and Tobago.

Meanwhile, Albion have not given up hope of landing experienced midfielder John Eustace on loan from Watford now that the window for temporary transfers has opened.

Eustace, who rejected a loan move to Withdean last month because he wanted to stay in the Championship, remains out of the first team picture at Vicarage Road.

Albion's main midfield target is Neil Kilkenny. They made two bids to sign the Australian international permanently from Leeds in January.

The Seagulls chances of borrowing him appear to be fading, as he wants a move to a Championship club.

Another target, former Seagull Therry Racon, is back in Charlton’s first team after a long-term injury.

Out-of-favour striker Jonny Dixon is back with Albion following a loan spell at Eastleigh.
