Eastbourne Borough are keen to extend Albion striker Sam Gargan’s loan spell.

Gargan is due to return to the Seagulls after tomorrow’s game at Kidderminster but his departure would leave Borough desperately short of firepower.

The 20-year-old has played less 30 minutes in total since arriving at Priory Lane last month but scored with his first touch after coming off the bench at Histon last Saturday.

The current situation at Withdean has complicated the matter but assistant manager Nick Greenwood is hopeful a deal can be arranged.

Greenwood said: “We want to keep Sam. He has not had the best of times since coming due to the weather but he is a player with a lot of potential and so it would be nice to have him a bit longer.

“With Dan Smith out of the equation it means there will be more opportunities for him and Nathan Crabb to play alongside Andy Atkin.”

If Gargan does not stay Greenwood admits Borough will look elsewhere – although one target will be lining up against them tomorrow at Aggborough.

Borough made an enquiry about Chris McPhee when he became a free agent on Monday after Weymouth failed to pay his wages but the ex-Albion striker joined Kidderminster yesterday Greenwood added: “Two strikers are not enough with the number of games we have coming up so if Sam doesn’t stay then we’ll have to look for someone else.

“Chris McPhee’s dad lives just round the corner from Priory Lane but there were lots of other clubs interested and the wages involved ruled us out really.”

Neil Jenkins returns from a two-game ban tomorrow meaning Borough have a full squad to choose from.
