Physio Malcolm Stuart has revealed Albion feared Glenn Murray had suffered another serious injury setback.

The striker could play some part at Scunthorpe on Saturday after having a steroid injection this week in his troublesome groin area.

Murray has recently returned after hernia surgery and complained of soreness after recent outings for the reserves and first team.

Stuart said: “Glenn suffered a reaction which we have not seen before from the other lads we sent to Germany for treatment.

“Our first fears were he had another hernia but the specialist in Germany said categorically that could not have happened.”

Albion were advised to use local anaesthetic on the painful area and see if Murray could do some work.

When he could, the next step was to go ahead with the steroid injection.

Stuart added: “The whole thing now appears to have settled down and he will do light work tomorrow. Muzza was thrilled to bits and hopefully that’s the end of the problem.

“We hope he will be available on Saturday.”

Meanwhile goalkeeper Michel Kuipers has resumed training this week after a hamstring injury.

Tonight’s Senior Cup tie was deemed too early for the Dutchman to return.

He is likely to be available for reserve games against Millwall at Bognor on Monday and QPR at Lewes on Wednesday.
