Lewes are trying to keep their squad together for the run-in to the season.

The loans of Guy Butters, Shaun Wilkinson and Rhys Henry run out after tomorrow’s game with Barrow.

Caretaker manager Steve Ibbitson wants to keep all three and is hopeful something can be done despite the club’s precarious financial position.

Guy Butters misses tomorrow’s game with a calf injury he aggravated in the warm-up at Kettering on Tuesday but has offered valuable experience to a young Lewes side during his two months on loan from Havant and Waterlooville.

Wilkinson, who has also been on loan from Havant for two months, has been particularly impressive in midfield while 18-year-old Rhys Henry, who has been on loan from Southend for the last month, has shown glimpses of his potential.

Ibbitson said: “I am keen to keep all three of them and have been talking to the clubs.

“We are trying to come up with a financial arrangement to keep them.”

Lewes are desperate to avoid going into administration and need to make a decision on that front in the next few days.

If they enter administration after next week they will start next season with a ten-point deduction rather than the penalty being enforced during the current campaign when it will not change anything.

The off-field troubles are hampering Ibbitson’s attempts to bring new players to the club although he is still trying to bolster the squad.

Chamal Fenelon’s departure this week has freed up some money although Ibbitson is yet to find out whether he will see any of it.

Ibbitson said: “We are working on a few things at the moment. We have a number of players in mind who we would like to bring to the club and we are trying to get them here.”

The Lewes boss is working with a threadbare squad and will have to rely on more youngsters tomorrow as he travels to Barrow without Butters and Michael Standing, who remains sidelined with a back injury.

Henry is also a doubt with a calf injury but is having treatment at Southend and Ibbitson is hopeful he will be fit.

Teenagers Ross Sutton, Ryan Storrie and Andy Wilkinson have all been handed league debuts in Ibbitson’s first two games in charge but the new boss is wary of overusing the youngsters.

He said: “When we took over a lot of people thought we would just throw 11 under-18s into the team but that was never going to happen. We have got to think about the club but we have also got to think about their development.

“The good thing is they know the pattern of play and when we talk to them they know what we want. They can all pass the ball well which is good.

“Whether they make the grade long term depends on how they adjust to the pace, the intensity and the physical side of the game at this level.”

Grant Hall is added to the squad for tomorrow’s game and Sutton could also be involved.

After a run of games against teams chasing a play-off place, Lewes find themselves up against fellow strugglers Barrow tomorrow and Ibbitson is hopeful they can end their losing sequence which now stands at 16 Blue Square premier defeats on the trot.

Ibbitson said: “I saw Barrow play Lewes earlier in the season and they looked a very strong side. If they turn up and play like that tomorrow it will be hard but all games are hard at the moment.

“What we have got to do is believe we can get something from every game. The games where we don’t believe is where things will turn sour. If we play like we did in the second half at Kettering we have every chance of getting something. We have got to turn the corner at some stage and why not Barrow?”

Barrow are without suspended duo Jason Walker and Steve McNulty but have signed Lee McEvilly on loan from Rochdale for the rest of the season.
