Gary Borrowdale insists Albion’s loan stars are as committed to keeping the club in League One as the rest of the squad.

The 23-year-old Queen’s Park Rangers full-back, who is with the Seagulls until the end of the season, is likely to start at play-off chasing Scunthorpe tomorrow after returning following a knee injury as a second-half subsititute in Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Walsall.

Albion had five loan players – goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen, Borrowdale, Matt Heath, Al Bangura and Lloyd Owusu – in action against the Saddlers and Borrowdale said: “Everyone is fighting for the same cause.”

He added: “I knew what the aim was when I came here which is to keep this club in this division and that applies to the other lads on loan.

“No one wants to get relegated. I experienced it from the Premier League with Crystal Palace and it’s the worst feeling in the world.

“Everyone is fighting for the same cause. If we didn’t want to be here we would have stayed at our parent clubs and played in the reserves.

“Personally, my aim is to play the last ten games and keep the club up. I know I can play in this division quite comfortably.”

Borrowdale, fully fit after missing three games with an injury he suffered on his debut against Leyton Orient, believes Albion have made progress under new boss Russell Slade.

And he says the squad are confident of pulling clear of trouble and quickly erasing the memory of Tuesday’s first-half horror show.

He said: “It was good to be playing again on Tuesday. The circumstances weren't the best but we battled in the second half and could have got a goal back. We were a lot more compact.

“But the first half was bad. We didn't turn up and the manager told us so but we have to move on. Hopefully it's just a blip.

“We definitely feel we can stay up. We are only three points adrift of safety which is one win so it's not the end of the world at the moment. But we have to start picking up points though.

“We have some good strikers here but you need to keep clean sheets although I don’t suppose the fans will moan if we win every game 2-1.
