Lloyd Owusu could be raising the roof Down Under, unless Albion offer him a two-year contract.

The on-loan striking hero of the Seagulls’ escape from relegation has a two-year deal on the table from Australian club Adelaide United.

Cheltenham cannot afford to keep him but Owusu has warned Albion will have to act quickly if they want to sign him permanently.

Owusu is relaxing with his family and considering his options after his goalscoring exploits saved the Seagulls from the drop to League Two.

The 32-year-old marksman found the next six times in as many matches following his loan switch from hard-up Cheltenham.

His raising the roof goal celebration captured the imagination of fans and inspired a campaign in The Argus during the relegation run-in.

“I’ve spoken to Martin Allen (Cheltenham manager) and he was full of praise for me,” said Owusu. “He said he would like to keep me at Cheltenham if he could but the club may not be able to afford it.

“I've been offered a two-year deal by Adelaide, so that is something I am mulling over. Obviously it is far away but I have got to look at longevity now.

“They wanted me on trial originally but they have done their homework on me and now they want me to lead them forward.

“They are in the Asian Champions League next season, so that is a massive factor. If I did decide to go out there I would be playing in front of 40 to 50,000 people in Japan which would be nice, especially coming towards the end of my career.

"I don't want to be waiting until the end of June, when a lot of deals are done. I would rather strike while the iron is hot.

"A lot of players are being released now and a lot of clubs will be waiting until the last minute, so that they can try to get players on the cheap. I want to try and get something sorted."

Albion drafted in Owusu, due to injuries to Nicky Forster and Glenn Murray. They also bought Welsh striker Craig Davies from Oldham during the January transfer window.

The fierce competition for forward places could work against them if they want to sign Owusu and so too could the length of contract he is demanding.

"I have got friends and family and great networks here, so staying in England would probably be my preferred option but I need to be looking to the long-term," he said.

"In the last few seasons I have been taking year-long deals, with the option of another year. I believe, after getting myself back to full fitness and with my goals to games ratio, that I deserve a two-year deal somewhere. That is my aim.

"I think the Brighton fans would maybe be a bit disappointed if I didn't sign. They got behind me and made me feel really welcome.

"I think they believe I was one of the factors in keeping them up, so ideally they would want me to stay, but there again there are so many strikers at Brighton already.

"I wouldn't want to be joining a team where I was fourth choice. I want to be going to a team that really, really want me and need me. That is the way I am looking at it now."

Albion have offered one-year professional contracts to Steve Cook, Steve Brinkhurst and Josh Pelling. Lewis Ide's youth scholarship has also been extended by six months after a knee injury.
