Boss Russell Slade has hinted at more movement in and out of Albion before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday.
He had further talks with chairman Tony Bloom yesterday about the state of a squad boosted by the return from injury of the experienced Gary Hart for tonight’s trip to Millwall.
The manager expects the Seagulls to be involved in limited rather than frenzied activity after losing 16 players and signing 11 since the end of last season.
Slade said: “I think it may be frenetic for a few clubs. I don’t see that for ourselves. There may be a little bit of business done, in and out, but we’ll wait and see.”
Hart’s return ahead of schedule is a welcome addition to Albion’s attacking options with Glenn Murray recuperating from further hernia surgery. The effervescent striker has been sidelined by a toe injury since pre-season.
Slade said: “Harty has trained with us this week and is part of the 20-man squad so he has every chance of at least making the bench.
“He is still in love with the game and he is a character. It is nice to look over your shoulder when you are having a cup of hot chocolate or a latte and Harty is on the coach with you.”
Graeme Smith and the suspension-free Michel Kuipers are both expected to recover from knocks as they compete for the goalkeeper’s jersey but Kevin McLeod is unlikely to feature after attending a family funeral yesterday.
Slade was at Upton Park on Tuesday to spy on Millwall in their Carling Cup exit at West Ham, which was overshadowed by crowd trouble.
He said: “It was a fairly scary place to be. It must have been difficult for the players and everybody concerned with both clubs.
“It really was a throwback to the 1970s but hopefully we can move on from that and I am sure there won’t be the same trouble tonight.
“We are a little bit makeshift at the back but have done a lot of work and the boys that turn out will hopefully defend as if their lives depend on it.”
