Peter Brezovan has just signed up for one of the toughest jobs in English football.

Agreeing a contract for the rest of the season with Albion is the easy bit for the towering Slovak goalkeeper.

Trying to dislodge Michel Kuipers from the No. 1 spot is another matter.

After two months sidelined from first team action by a groin injury and Brezovan's initially impressive form, Kuipers is back in possession of the gloves.

We have been here before.

So many others in Brezovan’s position have tried and ultimately failed to usurp the indomitable Dutchman, who will make the 300th appearance of his career against Brentford at Withdean on Saturday, weather permitting.

You will struggle to find a more positive-minded and determined individual than Kuipers.

His cup is always half full, an attitude shaped by a tough upbringing in the working class suburbs of Amsterdam and four-and-a-half years in the Dutch Marines.

His mother was a waitress, his late father a painter. Kuipers said: “They both had to work to put food on the table for me and my older brother and sister.

“I grew up in Amsterdam west side and there are a lot of things in Amsterdam that are not so nice."
