Albion will stage an inspection of their snow-bound Withdean pitch tomorrow as they try and get the Brentford game on.

The sides are due to clash in League One on Saturday.

However heavy snow today and freezing temperatures are likely to put the game in serious doubt.

Local ref Clive Penton has been called in to carry out a 1pm pitch inspection.

Groundsman Steve Winterburn said this afternoon: “We’re like everywhere else. We’ve got several inches of snow.

“At the moment there is a slight frost in the pitch.

“The temperature has gone up a bit with the snow but let’s see how we fare in the next couple of days.

“The forecast isn’t too good. We’ll have a serious look tomorrow to see what the score is.”

The Withdean pitch has been improved markedly in recent seasons but its location leaves it at the mercy of frost.

Temperatures are not forecast to rise above freezing for the rest of the week.

Winterburn added: “We’ve got the workforce to get on the pitch if needs be.”

Meanwhile Albion have been allocated about 6,000 tickets for their FA Cup tie at Aston Villa on January 23.

The tie is all-ticket for away fans. Details of who can buy what and when are available at seagulls.co.uk.
