Albion's home game against Brentford on Saturday has become an early victim of the big freeze.

The match has already been called off, with the Withdean pitch and surrounding areas snow and frostbound.

Local referee Clive Prenton was due to inspect conditions at lunchtime today, but the adverse weather conditions have made it impossible for him to make the short journey from his home.

The entire Sussex County League programme has been postponed already. It is the first time in 35 years as fixtures secretary that Peter Bentley has made that decision on a Thursday.

Eastbourne Borough's game at Cambridge United has also been postponesd while there will be Friday pitch inspections for Crawley and Lewes' FA Trophy games, although none are expected to go ahead.

Those games would be put back to next midweek but Crawley and Lewes who face Chelmsford City and Kidderminster away respectively have already been advised there is little chance of playing then.

The Ryman League programme is also expected to be wiped out on Saturday.
