Gus Poyet admitted Albion did just enough as they ground out an efficient but unspectacular 1-0 win at Southend today.
The Seagulls ended a four-game winless run thanks to Ashley Barnes' instinctive 15th-minute finish.
Albion now have 52 points and are virtually assured of safety while Southend are seven points from safety with just three games to go.
Poyet said: "The performance was, I would say, just enough.
"I know we were playing much better than this. So many games we have been better than the opposition and not got a result.
"This time we were not really better but we got the three points.
"It's that kind of game you cannot really analyse too much. Just take the three points and run very quick."
