INVINCIBLE Ricky Kling has revealed the brief exchange with his Eastbourne manager which helped him complete the best night of his speedway life.

The young Swedish reserve ended Eagles’ long wait for an Elite League maximum by going unbeaten in six rides in the impressive 55-41 defeat of Belle Vue Aces on Saturday.

He would have been excused for putting his feet up after taking an extra ride in heat 14 and combining with Cameron Woodward for the 5-1 which secured both the win and the bonus point.

However he declined the offer to preserve his unbeaten record for the evening, went back out against two of the finest riders in the Elite League and beat them convincingly That heat 15 win over Hans Andersen and Peter Karlsson capped a dream night for the 22-year-old and made sure he got a rapturous ovation from fans as well as the bumps from team mates.

Kling said: “I came back in from heat 14 and they said to me ‘do you want heat 15 or a maximum?’ I said ‘I want heat 15 AND a maximum.

“I hadn’t raced against their best riders. I could have stayed on my maximum and it looks good. But even if I’d gone away with a paid maximum from my first five rides, it wasn’t the challenge I wanted.
