Skipper Andrew Crofts is our readers’ choice as Albion player of the season.

Crofts topped a poll at theargus.co.uk with 34% of votes after we asked you to choose between four candidates.

The Welsh international is a strong contender to collect the club’s prestigious award ahead of Saturday’s season-ending clash at home to Yeovil.

He has been a driving force since being snapped up as an inspired free agent signing by Russell Slade last summer.

Gus Poyet made him captain after joining the club in November and he responded with goals in his first two games with the armband on his way to a season’s total of seven so far.

Crofts has missed just three games this season, and one of those was in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, which will not have gone un-noticed among the 34% of voters who gave him the nod in our poll.

By contrast, Inigo Calderon’s season only lasted from January 16 until April 17.

It is testimony to his mix of defensive reliability and attacking flair that he did enough in that time to come second in our poll with 28%.

The Spaniard is expected to sign a new deal when his current contract expires at the end of the season, which will be great news for his armada of fans at Withdean.

Elliott Bennett (23%) has been on board since late August.

He made his debut in the numbing 4-2 home defeat by Stockport but really announced his arrival with a stunning free-kick against Gillingham.

That was the first of eight goals this season, many of them spectacular efforts, but he has also created numerous chances for others and done his share of defensive chores.

Talking of defence, Adam El-Abd (15%) has been described by Poyet as Albion’s best defender.

Known for his versatility, El-Abd established himself at centre-back after going on for the red-carded Adam Virgo in late February. His whole-hearted efforts have not gone unappreciated.
