Gus Poyet will today welcome back striker Liam Dickinson from a loan spell and ask him: “Do you want to be part of my plans?”

The Albion boss admits he faces a busy summer shaping a squad capable of chasing promotion in 2010/11.

Dickinson, a £300,000 signing last summer, is back from a spell at Peterborough and, like Jimmy McNulty, could figure in the final game of the season when Yeovil visit on Saturday.

Posh boss Gary Johnson has claimed his club will not be trying to sign Dickinson on a permanent basis.

Poyet said: “I don’t know why all this is being said because we are not negotiating with anybody else now, just within the club.

“Liam is under contract. I need to talk to him and tell him what I am planning for next year. It depends whether he likes it or not.

“We are not holding a gun to the players’ heads. They have to be professional.

“It’s about the team. They have to want to play.”

Dickinson, pictured, has two years left on his contract, the same as left-back McNulty, who has been on loan at Scunthorpe.

Poyet added: “It is going to be a very difficult summer. I’m a long, long way from getting the squad I want.

“I want two players for each position but I don’t just want eight defenders or two left wingers.

“For example, if you have got Kazenga LuaLua as a winger, you then want a left-footer. It’s not enough to just have two left-sided players.

“Depending on your first player for the position, you go out and get your second and you want different things from him.”

Jamie Smith scored and George Barker hit the post as a young Albion reserve side won 1-0 at Millwall yesterday.
