Hartlepool have been docked three points for playing the suspended Gary Liddle in the 2-0 home win against Albion on Easter Monday.
They have also been given a suspended £10,000 fine.
The deduction means Hartlepool drop four places in the League One table to 19th, just a point above the relegation zone with one game left.
