Gary Hart is poised to stretch his stay with Albion into a 13th season.
Manager Gus Poyet has indicated the out-of-contract striker will still be on the fringes of the squad when he formulates his plans for next season.
Hart has only just returned to training after a back-related hamstring injury.
The 33-year-old has not started a game since Poyet took charge in November but he has been used as a substitute ten times and the Uruguayan believes Hart is still worth having around.
Poyet said: "He is one we’ve been having a long chat with and we are going to go through pre-season with Gary.
“He has been out for a while. We need to help each other really, to know where he is standing and where we stand.
"We need to make sure he is right. As soon as we are assembling the team and squad I think he is a great person and character and squad player to have around, so we are going to take it as it comes. He is happy to take it this way, so we’ll see."
