Marcos Painter has revealed he turned down more lucrative offers to sign for Albion.

The Birmingham-born left-back has agreed a two-year deal with the Seagulls and will complete formalities later this summer when his contract at Swansea expires.

He now faces a close-season of house-hunting before looking to add to the 19 appearances he made on loan in the second half of last season.

Painter said: “If it was down to money I could have gone somewhere else.

“I had other offers. The thing with Brighton is I’ve had half a season here, I enjoyed it and I feel part of the team. I felt settled at the club and I get on with the staff and players. I like the way the club is going. Deep down I didn’t want to go to another club.

“A lot of people think footballers are a greedy lot, to be honest, but it’s not always about money.”

Although there was a slight hitch in negotiations, Painter was delighted to avoid a summer of contract wrangles.

He added: “I’m pleased everything is sorted. I know how contract negotiations can drag on. There was a slight delay over one or two issues but it it has all been resolved.”
