Gus Poyet wants at least three more signings after finally landing Ashley Barnes.

The Plymouth striker’s permanent switch was completed yesterday, just a week after Liam Dickinson left to join Barnsley.

Barnes joins fellow new signings Marcos Painter, who was also on loan last season, Matt Sparrow, Michael Poke, Agustin Battipiedi and Cristian Baz.

Eleven players have left the club since the end of the season and Poyet insists his squad reshaping is not finished yet.

The Albion boss wants a centre-back and a striker within his ‘three’ and says that number could rise if other players leave, with Jimmy McNulty continuing to be linked with a move away.

Poyet said: “With the players we have now, we still need another three or four. More than that will depend on if somebody moves on.

“There are plenty of rumours, plenty of people talking about players. If it is more, it will be because somebody leaves. If it is still this group of players, then we need just three.

“We have plenty of options. It hasn’t been easy because the market has been quite slow. Most of the teams are pushing for the same players, which makes it complicated but we will get there.

“As soon as we can get the players the better because there are things we are really working on. It is the dream of any manager to start the first day of pre-season with the whole squad.
