Michel Kuipers is back in contention at Albion after apologising to manager Mark McGhee.

The Dutch goalkeeper has rescued his career with the club by saying sorry for outbursts last season.

McGhee has now drawn a line under their long-running feud. Kuipers has been taken off the transfer list, he is training with the rest of the squad and will renew his rivalry with Wayne Henderson.

The pair fell out when Kuipers was axed from the team in January, for matches away to Southampton and at home to Burnley. The 32-year-old spent the rest of the season on loan to Boston and was then transfer-listed after refusing to apologise.

The big freeze looked like continuing when the players reported back for pre-season training this week.

Henderson was handed the No. 1 shirt and Kuipers was set to train away from the main group until clearing the air.

"He came up to see me," McGhee said. "Nothing had changed as far as I was concerned, because he hadn't been in and I was still very upset by the whole proceedings.

"We went on to discuss it. He was especially upset that when I left him out I did not tell him until the game, which is what I normally do. I said in future I'll try to do that differently.

"He apologised for his outburst and stated that he wanted to be here and to help us get up, so as far as I am concerned that is the end of it and he is back in the fold."

Kuipers' apology came too late to reclaim the No. 1 shirt but McGhee said: "It doesn't mean to say Wayne is No. 1 because he has got that written on his back."
