Albion boss Gus Poyet has tipped Norwegian teenager Torbjorn Agdestein to play a part in his side’s promotion challenge.

Agdestein was included in the first team squad for the first time against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The rookie striker was on the bench because of a slight thigh injury to Spaniard Fran Sandaza.

He did not get on but Poyet is pleased with the progress Agdestein has made since snapping up the 18-year-old from Norwegian minnows Stord for a fee of around £25,000 at the end of the August transfer window.

Poyet said: “He’s been good, that is why he was there. Fran had a little problem with his quad and we didn’t want to risk him, especially having Toby who has been very good in the last few weeks.

“We wanted to give him something back for his attitude and his qualities. In another game he will probably play a part. It was so tight and difficult I didn’t think it was the right game to bring him on.

“He is going to have a chance. He is part of the squad and we are looking forward to playing him sooner or later.”

Summer signing Matt Sparrow is hoping to win his midfield spot back at Charlton on Saturday after he was dropped to the bench for the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

The former Scunthorpe stalwart, hindered by a suspension and injury, has not recaptured the form of his two-goal show in the opening day victory at Swindon.

Poyet said: "I thought Matt was trying too hard to keep the ball in some areas where we don't get the best out of him. I wanted him to see the game from the outside."

Charlton have a doubt over top scorer Scott Wagstaff for Albion’s visit. The five- goal winger was forced off at the interval by a foot injury in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Plymouth.

The Seagulls have put on sale 250 restricted view tickets for the trip to The Valley, where Poyet’s table-toppers will be roared on by more than 3,000 fans.
