Lancing and Rye United are both through to the last 32 of the FA Vase after thrilling extra-time wins.

Lancing kept their fairytale run in the competition going as goals in extra-time from Shaheen Sadough (two), Lee Garnham and Richard Hudson earned them a 4-2 win against Witham Town at Culver Road.

They now face a long trip north to either Holbrook Sports or St Helens Town with joint boss Martin Gander admitting they are loving every single minute.

He said: “It is fantastic that little old Lancing are in the last 32 of a national competition and I still can’t comprehend it to be honest. To come off at the end and see all the people clapping was fantastic.

“They were a good side but we fought really hard and I think we just about deserved it in the end. They had a good shout for a penalty when it was 1-1 but you have got to make the most of your luck and that’s what we did.”

“Not many people get the opportunity to get this far in the Vase and we are loving it. I’d swap it all for promotion at the end of the season though.”

Luke Woodley was the hero for Rye as he scored twice in extra-time to settle the all-Sussex clash with Three Bridges.

Duncan McArthur had put Rye ahead from the penalty-spot early in the first half but they were reduced to ten men when Ben Radley was sent off after half an hour and Bridges looked favourites when James Grant equalised just after the interval.

Rye now travel to Derbyshire to take on Staveley Miners Welfare in the fourth round after they beat Leeds Carnegie 4-1 on Saturday.

Rye boss Scott Price said: “We don’t make it easy for ourselves. Most people would have thought they would go on to win it when they equalised against ten men but credit to the lads for sticking to it and we completely overwhelmed them in extra-time.”

Three Bridges also lost their place at the top of the division one table as Crawley Down replaced them as leaders despite a “shocking” performance against Sidley.

Sidley were reduced to ten men just before half-time with the score at 1-1 and Down went on to win 4-2 thanks to a hat-trick from Tom Lyons.

Boss Darren Guirey said: “We were woeful. We haven’t been able to do much because of the weather recently and it really showed in our performance.

“It was not up to scratch and Sidley made us work really hard but I suppose you have got to be happy if you play badly and get three points.”

Pagham remain third thanks to two late goals from James Temple which earned them a 4-2 home win over struggling St Francis Rangers who had twice come from behind.

Chichester City are level with them on points after they put their recent off the field issues to one side to heap more misery on bottom club Eastbourne United. Joe Briggs, Adrian Brockway and Ben Vassello were all on target in a 3-0 win.

Hassocks suffered their third league defeat in four games as they went down 4-2 against free-scroring Hailsham at The Beacon. Mark French scored twice with Ashley Jarvis and Luke Denton also on target while Phil Gault replied twice from the penalty spot.

Rob O’Toole grabbed a last-minute equaliser as ten-man Peacehaven drew 2-2 at Shoreham in a game which saw Connor Saunders sent off and seven players from each side collect yellow cards. O’Toole had put the visitors in front but goals from Gareth Green and Dominic Shepherd turned the game Shoreham’s way.

Kieran Patel inspired Ringmer to come from behind to win 4-1 at home against Selsey with both teams reduced to ten men. The visitors had taken the lead thanks to an own goal but Ringmer roared back after the break with goals from David Altendorf, Aaron Phillips and a brace from Marc Whiteman.

Boss Bob Munnery said: “When Kieran is on his game he is a brilliant player and he was head and shoulders above anyone else. He set up two of the goals and hit the post twice and mastered the middle of the park.”

George Gaskin and Michael Asare both scored twice as Wick romped to a 5-1 win at home to Crowborough. Boss Gary Block said: “We were fantastic. It was the best performance I have seen as a manager and we could have had ten.”

Aaron Hewitt and Ryan Jones both scored on their debuts to cancel out goals from Ben Burns and John Westcott as a weakened Arundel side drew 2-2 at Redhill.

Arundel boss Gary Wheatcroft said: “I was very proud of the boys.

“It was against all the odds with the players we were missing but those who came in were a credit to the club.”
