Albion fans last night welcomed their club’s new badge for The Amex and said: “It reminds us of success.”

The emblem will come into effect when the Seagulls move to their spectacular new home in the summer.

It will replace the current shield and will be worn on the new strip from next term and used at the club’s new home.

Albion are returning to the circular style crest they wore during their rise to the top flight in the late 1970s.

Long-time fan Howie Blanks, 50, from Mile Oak, was among those who was delighted with the imminent change.

He said: “I like the new badge because it reminds me of the Alan Mullery glory days in the 1970s.

“It looks like a cleaner, smarter version of the old badge.

“It has been updated. It’s traditional but modern and reminds me of success.”

Andy Gresty, 48, from Milton Keynes, added: “I like the fact that we are going back to a round badge. I think it could have had The Seagulls on there somewhere.

“The word Albion looks a bit lost at the bottom but maybe that’s because I need to get used to it.

“Most people I know are really positive about going back to the round badge.”

The new logo has been designed by KSS and follows extensive consultation with a special fans’ focus group who were strongly in favour of a return to a round crest, similar to the one used by the club in 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

KSS have introduced new contemporary fonts and streamlined the design of the seagull, which now sports a striking yellow beak and flies forward from left to right.
