Steve Evans says Crawley will not compromise their attacking beliefs when they bid to make FA Cup history today.

Reds would become the first non-league side to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup since 1984 if they can topple Torquay at Plainmoor and their manager insists: “We’re going for it.”

Reds have only failed to score twice in the Conference this season and are averaging two goals a game. They have only lost one of their 13 away games.

Evans said: “Torquay are probably used to teams going there and playing 4-5-1 but if they think we’re going to do that they may be surprised, we’re going for it like we always do.

“That approach could undo us and they could go two or three up and people will question us.

“But I believe we will have an advantage in a lot of areas. Defensively we are very strong and every time we go forward we look like scoring a goal. That is testament to the way we play, not just the players we have got.”

Evans took his squad down to Devon yesterday but deliberately avoided staying in Torquay.

The squad trained at their base in Exeter and have turned down all requests from the national media to be with them in the build-up to one of the biggest games in their history.

Evans said: “Some media wanted to follow us on the way. We told them we’ll see them at the ground. A lot of Crawley managers before me would have been happy to sit with Robbie Savage before the last round and have coffee and biscuits and have their picture taken with him.”
