Crawley are through to the fifth round of the FA Cup after a dramatic 1-0 win over League Two Torquay at Plainmoor today.

Matt Tubbs scored his 25th goal of the season to settle a compelling tie as Reds became only the sixth non-league side since the Second World War to reach the last 16.

Both Tubbs and Craig McAllister missed second-half penalties and both teams finished with ten men after Torquay's Chris Zebroski and Reds' defender Dean Howell were sent off.

At the end the Crawley players celebrated in front of the travelling army of 1,200 as the club enjoyed the greatest day in their long history.

The visitors were never intimidated by Torquay and dominated possession in the early stages without creating too many chances.

But six minutes before the break Tubbs got goal side of Mark Ellis as he latched on to a long ball and after taking a touch he smashed a right-foot shot past Scott Bevan.

They had a chance to put the tie to bed on 61 minutes when Zebroski, who had just been booked, was sent off for handling Howell's cross.

Tubbs took the spot kick but Bevan plunged to his right to make the save.

Six minutes later Bevan came to his side's rescue again when he made a more comfortable save to deny McAllister from the spot after Jamie Cook had been brought down by Kevin Nicholson.

Howell was sent off for his second bookable offence after a melee in the Torquay box seven minutes from time.

But apsrt from a swerving effort by Nicholson which hit the bar late on Reds were rarely troubled at the back where Pablo Mills and Kyle McFadzean were magnifgicent in the heart of the defence.
