ASHLEY BARNES has revealed why he has extra reason to shine in the South-West.

The striker from Bath followed key goals at Plymouth and Exeter this season by putting Albion level against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

Barnes, pictured below, needed ten tickets to satisfy family and friends and enjoyed putting one over the club who let him go as a kid.

He said: “I've been at these clubs in the past when I was a young kid and they treat you like rubbish.

“You come back and you just want to answer all the critics.”

Barnes picked up the pieces at non-League side Paulton after being let go by Rovers’ youth set-up when the club had financial problems.

He had an unsuccessful trial at Bristol City before making his name at Plymouth.

The 21-year-old added: “When I was at Rovers I was very young and I had a bad temperament and it didn’t really help me on the pitch.

“But I’ve worked on everything over the years and I’ve become a good footballer. I just want to pay the gaffer back for everything he has done for me.”
