ALBION marksman Ashley Barnes is confident he can transfer his prolific form in League One into the Championship next season.

But he admits he will have to be more clinical in front of goal.

Barnes pounced on a short backpass by Radhi Jaidi to slot his 17th of the campaign in the 2-1 defeat by Southampton.

He told The Argus: “The gaffer has given me so much belief and helped me out. I've improved so much under him, Tano and Charlie. They've had faith in me since the start of the season and luckily enough I've repaid them. I want to repay them next season as well.”

Barnes has experience of the Championship with former club Plymouth Argyle. “You get one chance to finish, that's it,” he said.

“The Championship is a kind of striker’s game really. We need to be on target and take what we have done this season into next season. People have to be more clinical and that includes me personally as well “I was quite shattered after the first half and in the second half I was looking a bit leggy,” he admitted.

“I am very pleased with my first full season here. It’s a fantastic achievement but I've not stopped yet. I want to get to the 20-mark, if not more.”
