Ashley Barnes scored a second-half equaliser as Albion drew 1-1 at Colchester. Here is how the game progressed....

Pre-game: Albion make four changes from the side which started against Southampton on Saturday. Alan Navarro and Lewis Dunk both get a long-awaited chance to impress. Chris Wood and Craig Noone also start. Colchester are without dangerous attacker Steve Gillespie, who suffered a broken arm in the draw at Brentford on Good Friday.

1st min: Albion are defending a well-populated away end in the first half. They give the ball away after 30 seconds but James shoots harmlessly the bar.

5th min: Albion have started knocking the ball about neatly after that early blip.

6th min: Smith heads straight at Ankergren from a Colchester corner.

7th min: Noone cuts inside on a good run but shoots wide from outside the box.

10th min: O'Toole holds off a couple of tacklers on a strong run to the edge of the area but then drags a mis-hit shot well wide.

  • Colchester 0 Albion 0. Updated after 10mins of 1st half.

14th min: Ankergren dives to take the ball away from Henderson easily enough but seems to take a knock in the process. He needs a few moments of treatment.

16th min - GOAL: It's an absolute shambles in the Albion defence. Dicker turns into trouble initially to allow Colchester an attack. O'Toole gets in a weak shot which Ankergren fumbles, Elphick and Calderon get in a mess trying to tidy up and Calderon, in trying to clear, eventually passes the ball across goal perfectly for HENDERSON to shoot home from close range. It is the first goal Albion have ever conceded at this ground - on their third visit - and they made a gift of it.

18th min: Ankergren limps off and is replaced by Brezovan.

  • Colchester 1 Albion 0. Updated after 20mins of 1st half.

24th min: Albion at last put together the sort of passing move whch has been their trademark this season, from one end of the field to the other, but Noone wastes it when his cross is cleared by the first defender.

26th min: Generally, though, Albion are giving the ball away far too easily and far too often - and the home fans are loving it!

27th min: James is booked for taking a free-kick too quickly. When he then delivers from the right wing, Calderon does well to deflect Smith's shot wide at the far post.

  • Colchester 1 Albion 0. Updated after 30mins of 1st half.

36th min: There are just rare glimpses of Albion's passing game. Dunk looks assured on the ball.

38th min: Mooney's shot deflects off Calderon and bounces through gently to Brezovan. It is a pretty dull game now and a very subdued atmosphere.

39th min: Much better down the right hand side. Noone commits defenders and the overlapping Calderon eventually chips up a cross to the far post, where Barnes heads too close to the keeper.

40th min: Bennett is booked for a foul although he thought he took the ball.

  • Colchester 1 Albion 0. Updated after 40mins of 1st half.

41st min: Calderon makes a timely intervention in front of goal to deflect an on-target Mooney effort over the bar.

42nd min: James' intended shot ends up as a pass for Henderson, who scoops his effort over the bar from close in.

45th min: Bennett shoots not far wide with a 30-yard free kick after a foul on Barnes. We then enter three added minutes.

45+3 min - HALF-TIME: A restrained ripple of applause as the half ends with Colchester leading 1-0. The game has so far been everything I think we feared it might be.

52nd min: A bit of excitement from Albion as they now attack the away end. Noone runs at his defender and angles a shot about a foot wide of the far post. It was never going in but was a welcome bit of enterprise all the same.

53rd min: Wilson flattens Noone and is booked. Bennett then swings in a dangerous free-kick but Wood cannnot make proper contact with his header.

  • Colchester 1 Albion 0. Updated after 10mins of 2nd half.

57th min: Brezovan makes a double save as Colchester carve through all too easily. He comes out quickly to get his body in the way of a Mooney blast, then gets back quickly to tip away O'Toole's chip towards the top corner.

62nd min: Albion win a couple of corners, the second of which eventually falls to Wood whose hurried shot loops gently over the bar.

63rd min: Noone's low right curler is held by the diving Williams.

64th min: More pressure but Barnes cannot get proper contact on his shot, which bobbles wide.

65th min: Superb work down the left between Noone and Painter to open up the defence. Barnes has a swing at the ball and his mis-hit shot finds a way between the far post and the oncoming Wood with Albion's fans already celebrating the equaliser.

  • Colchester 1 Albion 0. Updated after 20mins of 2nd half.

67th min: Noone again cuts his way through and tees up Barnes, but the striker takes too long over his shot and his eventual effort is smothered behind for a corner.

69th min: Colchester send on Bond for O'Toole.

72nd min - GOAL: Albion hve the equaliser their second-half improvement deserves. Bennett gets away down the right, crosses low to the near post and BARNES applies the close-range finish.

  • Colchester 1 Albion 1. Updated after 30mins of 2nd half.

79th min: Colchester send on Wordsworth for Vincent.

82nd min: Noone twists and turns, chips the ball across goal to where three Albion players are waiting and it looks like Elphick who gets his head to it - but Williams is alert and tips over.

  • Colchester 1 Albion 1. Updated after 40mins of 2nd half.

87th min: Calderon's clearance is charged down and suddenly Mooney is in on goal. But his shot is not truly struck and Brezovan gets down to his left to make a save that was easier than it should have been.

90+1 min: We are into three added minutes.

90+3 min: Great work by Bennett by the right-wing corner flag to turn and cross. Wood heads not too far wide - and it is the final act of what developed into a decent second half performance by the champions.
