Gus Poyet felt his Albion side could have won at Colchester today.

But he was scathing in his criticism of their first-half efforts in the 1-1 draw.

Ashley Barnes levelled for the Seagulls after they gifted Ian Henderson a comical goal early on.

Poyet said: "I was very disappointed in the first half. We were sloppy, slow, too relaxed.

"You cannot give the opposition the possibility to take advantage of that.

"In the second half we were a bit better. We were good enough to get a draw. I think it was maybe enough to get three points.

"But it's good. I keep learning about the players and that is important for me."

Asked what went wrong in an awful first half, Poyet said: "We didn't play at all. We were on the pitch just running about.

"We didn't commit, we didn't have an idea, we didn't try to go forward, we didn't control the ball, we didn't pass it at the right time, we didn't move, we didn't play at all."

Poyet praised leftback Marcos Painter and felt Lewis Dunk looked solid at the back.

He added: "There were a few good performances and the whole team were just OK, not enough."

Poyet revealed Casper Ankergren left the action with a dead leg having suffered a similar injury in the same area against Southampton on Saturday.

He expects the Dane to be fit for the home game with Huddersfield but said: "If not, it's not a problem."
