Gus Poyet admits he is in a rush to net two more goal-getters, despite landing long-term target Will Hoskins yesterday.

The 25-year-old from Nottingham is joining Albion from Bristol Rovers on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

His arrival was a confirmed just hours after the League One champions admitted they would not be bringing back out-of-contract top scorer Glenn Murray.

Poyet is delighted to have struck quickly for Hoskins, who has played in the top two divisions for Watford.

The Albion boss said: “I’m very pleased because we got him very quickly once we knew we would not get Glenn.

“We needed three more strikers. This is one but we need to start moving as quickly as we can to get two more.

“I need strikers who score goals but also who have different qualities.”

Poyet says he is making good progress on other targets but admitted he almost signed Hoskins last summer.

He added: "The timing was not quite right. Then we tried to get him on loan in March, which I think people know about, but we couldn't do it in time.

"I've been following him since he was at Watford. Then when he went to Bristol Rovers it was easier to follow him because he was playing every week."

Hoskins made 70 appearances and scored nine goals at Watford during three seasons which also included loan spells at Millwall and Nottingham Forest before signing for Rovers last summer.

He caught the eye in the South West by scoring 20 goals for a relegated side and was highly impressive when his team lost 4-2 at home to Albion.

The Seagulls are believed to have paid an initial £500,000, equalling the record fee they splashed out on Andy Ritchie back in 1980, though that could rise with add-ons.
