Albion cruised to a 3-0 win over Burgess Hill in their opening first team friendly at Leylands Park.

Gus Poyet gave 45 minute run-outs to each of his four new signings: £2.5 million Craig Mackail-Smith, Will Hoskins, Will Buckley and Dutchman Roland Bergkamp.

Hoskins was on the scoresheet, along with Ashley Barnes and Craig Noone (penalty).

Poyet utilised his squad to the full, fielding two different elevens in each half.

Barnes drove Albion ahead in the 25th minute with an angled left-foot finish.

Bergkamp and Will Buckley both went close to marking their debuts with goals in the opening 45 minutes.

Bergkamp nearly converted a Marcos Painter cross early on, while Buckley's rising shot was destined for the top corner when Hillians keeper Callum Christie produced a fingertip save.

Trialist Curtis Osano featured in the first half at right-back.

The Kenyan-born 24-year-old has been at Rushden and Diamonds after beginning his career at Reading.

Christie embarked on a one-man mission to foil the Seagulls after the break.

He made smart saves from Mackail-Smith, Hoskins and Noone.

But Christie was helpless in the 68th minute when the lively Noone was brought down just inside the box by Russell Eldridge and picked himself up to send the keeper the wrong way from the resulting penalty.

Hoskins made it 3-0 with a low 20-yard drive nine minutes from time which Christie's replacement Tom Betts should have saved.

Albion second half (4-1-3-2): Ankergren; Calderon, Dunk, Hall, Taricco; Bridcutt; Smith, Kasim, Noone; Hoskins, Mackail-Smith.
