Lewis Dunk has apologised for the tackle on Billy Sharp at The Amex on Saturday which left the Doncaster striker with ankle ligament damage.

The young Albion centre half has tweeted Sharp, who was stretchered off in the second half of the Seagulls' 2-1 victory after scoring the opening goal.

Dunk wrote: "My apology goes to Billy Sharp. I hope the injury isn't as bad as rumoured when you find out on X ray Monday and wish you a speedy recovery."

The mild-mannered Dunk was booked for the challenge, although replays showed he made contact with Sharp from the side rather than behind.

Sharp is booked in to see a specialist tomorrow but the Doncaster physio is confident surgery will not be needed to repair the ligament damage.

Team-mate James Hayter, who was also stretchered off with a knee injury in the closing stages, improved over the weekend.

He will have a scan tomorrow if required.
