Darren Carter has vowed to play a major part for Albion in the Championship – given the chance.

The midfield trialist is waiting to find out if he has done enough to earn a deal after scoring on his debut in a 2-0 win for the reserves at Bournemouth yesterday in front of boss Gus Poyet.

Carter has played 250 games in the Championship and Premier League for home city club Birmingham, Sunderland, West Brom, Millwall and Preston but has been without a club since the end of last season.

The 6ft 2in 27-year-old told The Argus: “I’m very confident. I wouldn’t be down here, wasting my time or the gaffer’s time, if I didn’t feel I could make a big contribution. I’ve always been an ambitious person anyway and I’ve still got a lot of things I want to achieve in my career.

“All I need is an opportunity, that is all I am looking for. I have been working my socks off where ever I have been, especially this year, to just get an opportunity to prove to people I’ve got it at this level and higher.”
