Bjarne Pedersen has apologised to Eastbourne fans for his grand final flop.

But the veteran Dane admits he would jump at the chance of another season at Arlington, if circumstances allow.

Pedersen scored just four points from as many rides, and was last when going for double points, as Eagles let slip an eight-point first-leg lead at Poole on Monday.

It was a desperately poor return for a rider with vast experience of the Wimborne Road circuit and topped off a below-par finale to the season for the Danish star.

But he ends the year with a slightly increased average and has been delighted with the welcome given to him at Arlington after being told by Poole he was no longer in their plans. Pedersen said: “I’m disappointed with myself. I think the other guys in the team were really fighting but the four points I scored was very poor.

“I apologise for that. I just hope I can come back and do a better job for Eastbourne next year.

“I would like to say thanks to all the supporters at Eastbourne.

“It has been a fantastic season for me down there. I felt very welcome.

“A lot of things will happen in the winter and it’s not all down to me so I can’t promise I’ll be back but I enjoyed it.”

Pedersen will spend the winter trying to work out what went wrong in the later stages of the campaign.

He also missed out in the play-off final in Sweden, where he had two poor meetings for his table-topping track Indianerna. His Danish club were also runners-up.

He admitted: “I have a lot of years of experience and I just feel the last month has been a struggle.”
