Albion kept a welcome clean sheet today – but they were left thanking their lucky stars at the end of a lively 0-0 draw with Hull City.

Tigers striker Aaron Mclean fired against the underside of the bar on 71 minutes and Robert Koren repeated the feat, from well outside the box, as time ran out.

Mclean also saw a shot deflect just wide in added time as the Seagulls clung to a point.

The hosts also had their chances, the best of them on only six minutes when unmarked Lewis Dunk headed a Vicente corner wastefully wide.

Craig Mackail-Smith saw a header well held by Adriano Basso in the closing stages and then a volley tipped over the Brazilian keeper.

But Casper Ankergren bettered those stops just seconds after Mclean hit the bar.

The rebound reached Robbie Brady, whose left foot curler was heading inside the far post until Ankergren got fingertips to the ball and diverted it wide.

Ankergen also blocked when Lewis Dunk slipped and allowed Mclean a clear run on goal.

Albion, with Vicente inventive on the right, were arguably at their best in the opening stages of the game.

The result ends their proud record of having scored in every home league game since March, 2010.

But any concern at that was overshadowed by satisfaction at their clean sheet after leaking nine goals in their previous three games.
