Gordon Greer ended Albion's 342-minute goal drought today – and sent them towards a first win in ten Championship games.

Man-of-the-match Greer and Ryan Harley were on target in a hard-earned 2-0 win over Barnsley at The Amex.

The skipper calmly slid home an angled shot on 43 minutes after Craig Noone's free-kick curled in from the right flank caused problems.

Lewis Dunk had an initial shot half blocked and Greer followed up to score his first goal for the Seagulls from close range.

It was a goal which calmed nerves around the The Amex as Albion, without a victory in almost two months, struggled to impose themselves on a tidy Barnsley side.

The visitors went closest to a goal before Greer scored.

David Perkins curled on to the bar from edge of the box on 28 minutes and, seconds later, Steve Harper tipped a Jacob Butterfield drive away from the top corner.

Albion, though, extended their lead on 57 minutes when Ryan Harley followed up to finish after Craig Mackail-Smith's initial effort had been tipped on to the bar by keeper Luke Steele.

It needed a superb goal-line clearance by Greer to maintain the 2-0 cushion as he got back to head away a goalbound effort from substitute Ricardo Vaz Te.

Harper dived to his right to parry a Butterfield 30-yarder as time ran out.

But Albion had done enough by then to end that long winless run.
