Albion are poised to loan out England under-18 midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey in the new year.

The Seagulls have discussed with Forster-Caskey, left, the possibility of him joining a League One or League Two club to gain more experience.

Defender Steve Cook is thriving on loan at Bournemouth and manager Gus Poyet has something similar in mind for 17-year-old Forster-Caskey, who made his second first team appearance as a substitute at Stoke in the FA Cup last season.

Poyet said: “If it’s the right place yes, we have talked already with him. He needs to play when he goes on loan.

“The situation, for example, of Cooky is perfect for us. He is playing every game, they are keeping clean sheets, he is doing fantastically in a very competitive division.

“That shows if it is the right place it’s perfect for the players. It’s no good if Jake is not going to play or touch the ball. Jake needs to be involved, because he’s that type of player, so it depends on the place.”

Poyet was delighted with Forster-Caskey’s goalscoring performance in Tuesday’s 1-0 FA Youth Cup victory against Aston Villa at The Amex. He said: “What Jake showed the other day was the right mentality, which is very important.

“He did his job for the team and stood up when it was needed, whether scoring the goal or tackling or being responsible for making us play.

“He didn’t go with the wrong mentality, thinking it was too easy for him, and that’s Jake.

“At home in the FA Youth Cup against Aston Villa or away at Stoke with the first team was exactly the same. That is why he’s got a great chance to be a very good player.”
