Albion are spreading their wings in the hunt for a left-back.

Former loanee Sebastien Pocognoli has confirmed he has not heard from the Seagulls as he assesses his future.

Pocognoli, who is free to leave West Brom, has put all thoughts of a new venture on hold until next month as he enjoys a holiday.

The Belgian has options but says Albion are not one of them.

Gaetan Bong is staying with the Seagulls on a new one-year deal but they are likely to want to give him competition as they plan for the Premier League.

Niki Maenpaa is expected to return to the club on a one-year contract.

His agent has told sources in Holland the Finnish international goalkeeper will accept terms offered by the Seagulls ahead of other offers.

Confirmation could come as soon as tomorrow.

Albion remain on the trail of striker Tammy Abraham from Chelsea as a loan signing.

They were believed to be talking to Abraham’s representatives this weekend with Newcastle concerned their geographical location would count against them in the Surrey-based player’s final decision.

The Argus understands Albion’s work to secure the England under-21 forward remains ongoing.

Meanwhile, Norwegian under-21 international Henrik Bjordal has spoken of his determination to be part of Chris Hughton’s first team plans when he returns from his current loan stint at Gothenburg.

In an interview for The Argus today, Bjordal said: “If I can be around the first team, I would learn so much.”
