England fast bowler Simon Jones went wicketless on his return to action at Hove today.
The 28-year-old, a star of England's victorious Ashes campaign in 2005, was beginning his comeback after 11 months out with a knee injury which required surgery last summer.
Jones bowled two spells in the pre-season friendly against Sussex. He should have got a wicket in his fifth over when Richard Grant dropped a straightforward chance at mid-wicket to reprieve Carl Hopkinson.
He returned to bowl two distinctly quicker overs at the Sussex tail-enders when both James Kirtley and Andrew Hodd looked uncomfortable against the extra pace.
Mike Yardy (62) and Chris Adams (57) top scored in Sussex's 253-9 off 50 overs and all top six batsmen got useful time in the middle.
Of more concern was the loss of Sussex's last six wickets for 42 in nine overs. Huw Waters finished with 4-46 while Jones had 0-29 from eight overs and bowled the only two maidens of the innings.
Glamorgan reached 34-0 from eight overs of their run chase.
