Mike Yardy got a taste of captaincy as Sussex continued their pre-season preparations with a second friendly against Glamorgan at chilly Hove today.

Skipper Chris Adams took a back seat and Yardy, who was appointed vice-captain last week, saw his team contain Glamorgan after they batted first in a 50 overs contest on the same pitch used for yesterday's contest.

Robin Martin-Jenkins also had his first run out of the season after recovering from a minor hand injury and Andrew Hodd kept wicket instead of Matt Prior.

Yardy used six bowlers in the first 30 overs and it was Carl Hopkinson who was the most successful, picking up Richard Grant (28) and Robert Croft (1), the latter well taken down the leg side by Hodd.

Earlier, James Kirtley had struck with the new ball when Michael Thornely took a good catch at third man to dismiss Nicky Peng.

Saqlain Mushtaq then tasted success when David Hemp was leg before for 28 sweeping.

Ben Wright (43*) and Dan Cherry (8*) took the score to 120-4 off 35 overs as Sussex looked to avenge yesterday's five-wicket defeat.
