South Africa all-rounder Andrew Hall is convinced Matt Prior is the perfect man to transform England's dismal one-day form.

Prior returned to Hove yesterday following his impressive introduction to Test cricket to hit a belligerent 76 in a losing cause for Sussex in their Friends Provident Trophy clash with Kent.

Hall proved Kent's matchwinner with his fifth limited-overs hundred, two wickets and a catch but preferred to focus on Prior's performance after the match, claiming he should get the nod ahead of Paul Nixon for the limited-overs series against West Indies and India this summer.

Hall said: "He's a very aggressive batsman who's been scoring runs at a good pace and he looks in great form. I see no reasons why the selectors won't go and back him for the one-dayers as well. He's a youngster with years ahead of him."

Prior has not played a ODI for England since last April and was overlooked in favour of Nixon for the World Cup earlier this year.

"Not taking anything away from him (Nixon) - he played exceptionally well - but looking at the way Matt's playing, my decision would be to go with him. I think after his performances so far in the England side he has a very good chance of getting into the one-day team."

Even Prior could not rescue Sussex yesterday as they were bowled out for 152 in only 33.4 overs chasing Kent's total of 264.

Should Matt Prior replace Paul Nixon in England's one-day squad?
