Sarah Taylor has set herself the goal of playing at the World Cup this summer.

The Sussex wicketkeeper has not played for club or country since England bowed out of the World T20 12 months ago and then revealing she was suffering from debilitating panic attacks.

The 27-year-old former Brighton College pupil was rated as one of the best players in the world before taking an enforced break as she attempts to overcome anxiety problems which resulted in her being sick before going out to bat.

Taylor has been left out of a 24-strong England squad for a training camp in the United Arab Emirates next month as she continues her recovery but head coach Mark Robinson remains hopeful she will be available to play in the World Cup which will be staged in England in June and July.

Former Sussex coach Robinson said: "Sarah is going really well at the moment and is back in training.

"Her return is a graduated one which is regularly reviewed as she works herself back to hopefully full fitness.

"There are no timescales in place for her but her goal is still to give herself the best chance of being able to play in the World Cup.”

Sussex trio Georgia Elwiss, Danielle Wyatt and Georgia Adams are part of the squad which includes 17 centrally-contracted players along with seven senior academy players.

England will play three 50-over matches against an Ireland XI in Abu Dhabi as they step up preparations for the World Cup.

He said: "The trip will give us the opportunity to play some internal games to get us back playing competitive cricket. With places up for grabs, the players will start the process of building a case for selection this summer.

“Having some of the academy players with us is exciting as we are always looking for opportunities to increase their learning and exposure."
