Ollie Robinson has been ruled out of Sussex’s 50-overs group fixtures.

The fast bowler has a shoulder muscle strain and the county have confirmed he requires “a number of weeks off”.

Robinson was due to be rested at home to Surrey today and away to Kent on Sunday after undergoing hip surgery in the close-season.

It has now been revealed he has separate problem which will keep him out of all eight of his team’s Royal London One-Day Cup South Group games.

Sussex have brought in George Garton against Surrey today and also go with two spinners in Danny Briggs and will Beer.

Stiaan Van Zyl is being rested this weekend. He made a century at Durham last weekend but is managing a bone-bruising problem in his knee which kept him out for most of last season.

Surrey won the toss and opted to bat first. Garton was involved in a big early breakthrough when, at cover, he held a sharp catch to get rid of dangerous Jason Roy for just nine off the bowling of Mir Hamza.

But Chris Jordan put down a relatively simple catch at slip off Mark Stoneman in Beer's first over.
