Sussex supporters can see two of their players go head-to-head at the World Cup today.

Alex Carey, the Australia wicketkeeper signed this week, goes up against Rashid Khan and Afghanistan in a day-nighter at Bristol.

Both men star for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash and will be part of the Sharks squad in the Vitality Blast, which starts on July 19.

Sussex boss Jason Gillespie has revealed plans to bring in Carey were first laid months ago.

He said: “It has been well in the pipeline for a while.

“I met with him before I came away and said there might be an opportunity and would he be interested. He said he would be interested in having a chat and things just progressed from there.

“I’m really excited and delighted he has agreed to join us.

“To have an international wicketkeeper-batter, a guy who can clear the rope or who can play the situations, is fantastic.

Carey looks set to bat at four or five with Sharks unlikely to break up their impressive top three of Phil Salt, Luke Wright and Laurie Evans.
